Creating with Scratch Art

The girls and I have been experimenting with scratch art lately and it is so much fun.  Any age can do this.  Here are some steps and some creative ideas.

Materials-Scratch art kit-We bought a kit at Michaels but most craft or art stores would have it.  You can also buy the scratch art sheets on its own.  It is also fun to make your own scratch art with painting paper, crayons and black acrylic or tempura paint and a chop stick to scratch with as well as stencils.

Steps

To make your own:  Colour a sheet of painting paper randomly with crayons.  Use lots of bright colours.  Paint over the crayons with black acrylic or tempura paint.  Once it is dry, start scratching with a chop stick to reveal the colours underneath.  You can also use stencils and scratch inside the stencils.  If you are using the kit it comes with black scratch paper and something to scratch with.

Back and Forth-My daughter and I went back and forth making a mark on the scratch paper and then passing the paper to the other person.  This is a great group activity or a way to interact with your kids and encourage creativity.

Stencils-You can colour inside of stencils.

Zentangle Tree-Draw a tree and divide it up by zig zag lines and draw patterns in each section.  This can be used as a Christmas card or a gift.

Art Classes in January

My art classes starting in January are almost full.  Don’t miss out on the fun!

I really believe that everyone has the ability to be creative.  I want to encourage adults and children to have fun and be inspired.  This set of art classes will focus on composition and the building blocks of successful art.  We will have fun exploring concepts used in art such as repetition, rule of thirds, vanishing line and contrast.   We will be exploring different art materials such as water colours, acrylics, tempura paints, oil pastels, soft pastels and we will even be learning how to make our own stamps. Each student will receive a presentation book to keep all their beautiful paintings in and all supplies are included.

In order to keep the classes smaller,  I will run the same class at two different times on Wednesday evenings, so choose the time that works best for you.  All registration is going through Eventbrite so you can use visa to pay for it. I can’t wait to create with you.
