New Moon: A time to stop and reflect

I have always been interested in the moon cycles.  I don’t talk about it very often because a lot of people don’t understand it or believe it.  My cycles have always been regular at 28 days and have followed the 28 day cycles of the moon.   One of my daughters is also really affected by the moon.  I  can almost guess what phase the moon is in by how she is handling things that come her way.  All of us are affected by the moon but when we live in a city it is harder to be in tune with the moon and its rhythms.  We don’t always pause to give ourselves time to think about the rhythms of our body and how other things can affect us.  We blame lack of sleep or irritability on other things but don’t think that it can be natural rhythms of the earth, moon and sun.  The moon controls the tides of the ocean.  That is powerful to me.  When you stop to think about it, it makes sense that it can also affect us emotionally, spiritually and physically.

The first phase of the moon cycle is called the new moon and it is when the moon is in conjunction with the sun so we cannot see it.  The new moon holds special meaning in many cultures.  It is a good time to re-set, set intentions, rest and reflect.  This week the new moon  happened on July 2nd and this means we are half way through the year.  How is your year going?  The intentions you set for the year….have you had a chance to think back to them and reflect?  Where are you now on your journey to achieve your goals or work towards your dreams?   Taking time to think about what you want for your life is so important.  The weeks turn to months and then years go by and you wonder where the time has gone.  Do me a favor and stop for a moment and write down your best life and what it looks like.  Then take one thing you wrote down and break it down into smaller goals or things that are achievable and start doing them each week.  It is amazing how 15 minutes a day could change the direction of your life.

Reflecting on this year so far for me has been hard since my daughter was in the hospital for almost 3 weeks at the beginning of the year and it took us a long time as a family to get back on track.  I feel like painting was my therapy during that time and has helped me to feel like myself again.  That is why I started a You Tube channel.  I want to show easy painting tutorials that anyone can do to spark your creativity and to feel the joy and peace that comes from creating.  Check out my You Tube channel here for creative inspiration.    Happy creating and allow yourself time to rest with the new moon.
