Creating with Feathers

We have been experimenting with feathers lately.  It is fun to try to find feathers outside or you can buy a bag of feathers at a dollar store or craft store.  Here are some fun ideas:

Painting Feathers-We had fun painting patterns on feathers with acrylic paint.  We used good quality thicker paints so it would show up better.  You can also use markers if you have feathers that are a lighter color.

Make a dream catcher

Wind yarn around a bracelet or metal hoop.  Then use a different color of string and wind it from one side of the hoop to the other to make the star pattern.  We used yarn that was different colors all in one strand.  Tie a piece of string so it hangs down with 2 strings on the bottom and add beads to the bottom.  Push the end of the feather up into the beads.

Hackie Sack

My daughter figured out how to make this one.  She trimmed the edges of 3 feathers on the bottom.  She then wound a pipe cleaner at the top and then thread alternating beads and foam circles onto the 3 feather stems and the pipe cleaner.  On the bottom, place two pieces of foam together over the pipe cleaner and tape it together.  It actually works like a hackie sack.

Make a Painting of a Feather

All this creating with feathers inspired a painting.  I used spray inks in the background and then used a marker on top once it was dry.  Check out my You Tube channel for more painting ideas.
