Puffy Paint Recipe

Recently in art club we experimented with STEAM art by adding different things to paint to make it look like ice cream.

We added flour to make tempera paint thicker and we made some puffy paint!  The kids loved it so much that I thought I would share how to do it with you.

Making paint thicker

Stir in a small amount of flour to acrylic or tempera paint. Start with a 1/4 teaspoon and add a little more at a time until the paint looks like the texture you want.

Puffy Paint Recipe

MATERIALS

  • Shaving foam (not gel)
  • white glue
  • Food coloring or paint (tempera or acrylic paint)
  • Containers to mix different colours in
  • Something to stir the different colours like popsicle sticks or spoons

Instructions

Place one squirt of shaving foam in each of the bowls

Add some white glue (less glue then foam, about 1/2 the amount of foam)

Add a few drops of food colouring or paint

Gently stir

Add more paint or food colouring until you have the colour you want

Paint on paper with popsicle sticks or paint brushes. This makes great ice cream paint.  It looks good enough to eat (but don’t eat the paint!)

This kind of painting takes over night to dry.

Let me know if you try this!

Happy Creating
